W portable media player: Unfortunately, the player isn't particularly sleek, and its audio battery Creative ZEN Vision W PlaysForSure is shorter than it should be for a device this size. The one thing that could have put this product over the top, however, would have been an optional video-recording feature along the lines of the Archos and its optional DVR docking station.
The 30GB Zen Vision: W's silver and black plastic body is a bit chunky, measuring 0. The 60GB model is even thicker about 1 inch. Both models feature a 4.
The back of the device is actually an easily removable and rechargeable lithium-ion battery. The controls on the front are well Creative ZEN Vision W PlaysForSure out, though I'd prefer that volume buttons be not so far from these keys. Unfortunately, there's no kickstand, so you have to hold the device while you're watching video.
I like how syncing the ZVW doesn't require a proprietary cord, and the inclusion of an AC adapter is a nice bonus, even though Creative ZEN Vision W PlaysForSure device can charge via USB. You also can get an optional adapter for the player's CompactFlash slot from Creative if you want to use other memory-card formats. The ZVW's interface is extremely easy to use and operates with adequate smoothness.
I also like the contextual menus and ability to customize the main menu. My favorite part about navigating, though, is the power-scroll sidebar that comes up on the right-hand side of the screen when you browse your media.
Simply press the four-way rocker to the right and you can easily jump by letter. The buttons on front are a bit small, but most users should have no problems.

The dedicated volume buttons actually run along the top of the device. Keep in mind this is for storage only; you can't play back files loaded this way.
To transcode incompatible video files, there's the included Creative Sync Manager software. One nice feature is the ability to create up to ten bookmarks within each audio file, and videos resume playing from where you last closed them. I tried this feature and it worked flawlessly with MS Outlook You can delete files directly on the device, and create and rename via a virtual keyboard playlists on the player without connecting to a PC.
The subjective sound quality of the ZVW is good, though the included earbuds are a bit heavy on the midrange. Bass response is fine, but the very low end is a bit weak when the player is on its default settings.
Warranty & Support
There's a custom five-band equalizer as well as eight presets. I swapped out the included earbuds for a pair of Grado SR80 headphones, which require more power than earbuds, and the player was able to drive them sufficiently. If you love high-bit-rate audio files, this player will have no trouble driving any in-ear headphones you throw at it. I tested the player's frequency response on its default settings with the included earbuds plugged in, and it confirmed a slight weakness in the lowest audible octave, but performance is good overall.
I also tested the ZVW's signal for distortion again on default settings and found it remarkably clean even at Creative ZEN Vision W PlaysForSure volume.
Interestingly, the Zen Vision: W offers a volume limiter, presumably to comply with the same Creative ZEN Vision W PlaysForSure that forced Apple to include such a feature on the iPod. A Smart Volume option in the Audio Settings menu causes files to be played back at volumes that are more uniform. This can be handy if you listen to many different genres of music, some of which may be recorded at vastly different volumes.

The FM tuner is of slightly above-average strength at least here in New York City and supports up to 32 presets. The device also has a handy level meter and an indicator telling you how much recording time you have left. On the Vision's screen, photos look sharp Creative ZEN Vision W PlaysForSure crisp, and colors are vivid with true blacks. There are pan, zoom, and rotate functions, though the zoom feature is quite slow, and thumbnails take a while to load the first time, because they're generated directly on the player.
Cool photo options include watching slide shows with musical accompaniment and setting images as the device's background wallpaper.
